Timeline Studio vs TeamGantt
Timeline Studio vs TeamGantt: two browser Gantt charts compared
TeamGantt and Timeline Studio both put a drag-and-drop Gantt chart in the browser for teams. They overlap a lot, so the useful question is where they differ. This page sets that out as fairly as we can.

The short version
Similar starting point, different emphasis
TeamGantt is an established online Gantt chart tool. Its features page lists task dependencies, calendar, list and board views, workloads, baseline reporting, time tracking with timesheet reports, a client portal and public share links, mobile access, and integrations with tools such as Slack, Zapier and Dropbox. If you need time tracking or baselines alongside your Gantt chart, those are real reasons to choose it.
Timeline Studio covers the core of Gantt planning too: drag-and-drop bars, dependencies, the critical path, a Kanban board and a list view, workload by person and a view-only public link. Where it puts its effort is different: a what-if simulation sandbox, working-day scheduling with one-click public holidays, importing plans from Jira and MS Project, an AI planner that runs on your own API key, and live collaboration on the timeline itself.
TeamGantt may suit you better if
- You want time tracking and timesheets in the same tool
- You report against baselines
- You rely on integrations such as Slack, Zapier or Dropbox
- You want a dedicated client portal
Timeline Studio may suit you better if
- You want to test what-if scenarios before changing the real plan
- You schedule around custom work weeks and national holidays
- You are moving a plan in from Jira or MS Project
- You want an AI draft of a plan, billed to your own API key
What-if simulation
A sandbox for “what if?”
Timeline Studio's simulation mode lets you drag dates, change durations and rearrange dependencies without touching the real plan. Every dependent task moves with the change, broken dependencies are flagged, and you choose whether to apply the result or exit and leave the plan exactly as it was. It is built for the questions clients and managers ask in meetings: what if this slips, what if we start later, what if two people are away.
- Changes stay in the sandbox until you apply them
- Dependent tasks move with every change
- Broken dependencies are flagged before you apply

Working-day scheduling
Work weeks and public holidays, per timeline
Each Timeline Studio timeline has its own work week and holidays. Add national public holidays in one click for the US, UK, Germany, France, Canada, Poland or Ukraine, and turn on “Skip days off when scheduling” so task lengths, dependency shifts and the critical path count working days only. Days off are shaded on the chart, and adding a holiday offers to shift the tasks it affects.
- Any work week, such as Sunday to Thursday
- Public holidays in one click for seven countries
- Critical path counts working days

Import
Start from the plan you already have
Timeline Studio imports Jira CSV exports, MS Project XML files, CSV files and pasted spreadsheet cells, and keeps the hierarchy, links, assignees and dates. If you are coming from TeamGantt or another tool, export your tasks to CSV or copy them into a spreadsheet, then paste or import them. You match the columns and review anything that had to be adjusted before the timeline is created.
- Jira CSV exports and MS Project XML
- CSV files and cells pasted from Excel or Google Sheets
- Up to 1,000 rows and 2,000 links

AI project planner
An AI draft of the plan, on your own key
Describe a project in a few sentences, pick a start date, and Timeline Studio drafts tasks, dates, dependencies and effort ranges with the assumptions behind them. You review and edit every row, and nothing is created until you confirm. It runs on your own API key from Anthropic, OpenAI or Google, so your provider bills that usage directly. The same connection writes stakeholder status updates from the last week, two weeks or month of activity.
- Works with Anthropic, OpenAI and Google models
- Token use and estimated cost shown with each draft
- Stakeholder status updates from recent activity

Collaboration and sharing
Both tools let you share plans with people inside and outside the team. In Timeline Studio you invite people by email as Can edit, Can comment or View only, or switch on a view-only public link. When others have the timeline open you see their cursors and the bars they are editing, and changes show up without a reload. Comments on tasks support @mentions with email notifications, each timeline has a chat for everyone or one person at a time, and the activity feed shows who changed what.
What Timeline Studio doesn't have
To be clear about the gaps: Timeline Studio has no time tracking or timesheets, no baselines, no third-party integrations beyond importing and exporting files, and no dedicated client portal. It runs in the mobile browser rather than a native app. If any of those are must-haves, TeamGantt may be the better choice.
TeamGantt is a trademark of its owner. Timeline Studio is not affiliated with or endorsed by TeamGantt. Details about TeamGantt come from its public features page as of October 2026 and may have changed since; check teamgantt.com for current features and pricing.
